This past weekend, my friend held a fundraiser to raise money for human trafficking in Charlotte, North Carolina. What is ironic, is that on the corner across from them was men protesting HB2 and had rage over that. But my question is where is the rage over how Charlotte, North Carolina is sixth in the country for human trafficking? Where is the rage that women and children are being brought into this country to be sex slaves, raped and abused? Where is the rage over rape? Where is the rage over gentlemen clubs where women are exploited, seen as nothing but a sex object, and promotes hate against women? Where is the rage over how universities and military does nothing about rape? Where is the rage over retaliation? Where is the rage over how military protects rapists, ruins survivors career, and promotes rapists? Where is the rage over how the General Assembly has done nothing to curb this? Where is the rage over the gentlemen clubs? Where is the rage over how universities do nothing about rape? Where is the rage over how the military protects rapists, retaliates against survivors, and promotes rapists? Where is rage over how a rape happens every two minutes in this country? Where is the rage over how 1 in 4 women will be raped in her lifetime? Where is the rage over how 1 in 6 men will be raped in his lifetime. Where is the rage over how the Senate, House, Department of Defense, Universities, President, Vice President does nothing about rape and holding rapists accountable?
Seems to me like people have a right to protest, but seems to me like people should be protesting this more. Rape is not just a woman’s issue. 1 in 6 men will be raped in their life time. 1 in 4 women will be raped in her life time. A rape happens every two minutes in this country. How about protesting a real issue like this and caring about this. How about protesting in the streets so that rapists are held accountable and the blame is put on the rapist instead of the survivor. How about society and the damn government caring about a real issue like this instead of what sex someone is and what bathroom they use.
